Back To 50's Or Bust

I was really excited for the opportunity to relive the 50's era at the big Back to the Fifties weekend in the Cities. I was escorted by Leanne and her husband Darrin along with their friends and family. Although the weekend started out a little rough, we all had fun, and I met some great people! To begin, I will run down the events of the weekend...

Friday: We woke up early to start our journey, but awoke to a "surprise" left on Darrin's truck and trailer. A neighbor who often complains about cars being parked on the public street decided to call the cops about the truck! It was park for 12 hours and technically it should be moved. According to the Lieutenant, they only mark cars when there is a complaint- well someone complained. But luck was on our side- as they gave us a notice to move the truck in the next 24 hours. So actually the law was on our side- phew that was a close one!

So we moved the truck around the block (to wear off the chalk lines on the tires), and we were finally on our way!

The chosen vehicle that Darrin drove up to the Cities was his 1953 Ford. This was an excited but nervous drive because Darrin hadn't drove the car that far before and didn't know how it would do. Well Darrin's hesitations were enforced when the we could start smelling antifreeze. Also the car's temperature started getting really high. So he decided to stop at a car dealer by Pine Island to figure out what was going on. Well he found out that the car was hot! And the radiator cap was leaking. With much encouragement not to give up from Leanne, Darrin decided to take one of the other cars in our group and go to Pine Island to find a radiator cap. While he did that, we stayed with the car (I stayed in the car because antifreeze and animals is a deadly combination... I really didn't want to go to the animal emergency room!!)

Finally, about four hours later we finally limped our way up to the Cities. The new radiator cap held and the temperature stayed okay. We stopped and registered for the event, and dropped our stuff off at the apartment we rented, then it was on our way to the show! Darrin decided to give the for a rest, so we hoped in the 57 Olds that is brother Justin brought up. I was so excited, and since you don't need to wear seatbelts in old cars, I decided to sit in the prime location! On the DASH! As we turned onto Snelling Avenue we started seeing more and more people on the side of the streets. All there to watch us go by and to take pictures of all the cars! It was amazing... I felt like I was on parade. We made it to the fairgrounds, and then it started to rain! Because of the humidity, I really didn't want to get wet. So Justin let me borrow in Metalica hat to stay dry!

Okay, so I got really really bored as we were stuck in a line of cars, in the rain. So I decided to have a little fun!

So after a really long day. We decided that it was time to grab some grub. And nothing is better than a Fudrucker's hamburger. Boy was I hungry. Luckily Leanne shared some of her food with me.

I ate Pickles as my appetizer.....

Then I ate my dessert before the food came!

Well no wonder our food took so long...Tony ordered the biggest burger on the menu! Luckily he did give me a little nibble before it was all gone.

While everyone else enjoyed their food, I think the sugar got to me. Darrin found be behind the bakery counter trying to get more cookies for the right back to our apartment!

Then it was off to bed to rest up for two more days full of cars!!

Saturday and Sunday: The decision was made to get up really really early. Luckily being a mouse, I didn't need to take a shower, so I was able to sleep in until the last minute. Let me tell you, 6 am came way too early!

Right away in the morning, I started meeting new friends and cool cars.
I met Bonnie and Jim and their waitress serving up a drive in burger. They were so nice and loved to hear about my coworkers and previous travels.

Then I met a young girl and her family. I really liked her mode of transportation. It reminds me of all my friends in Austin!

I also met this fun girls who share my interest in poodle skirts... or kilt in my case!

I met a mini kangaroo. She was sticking out of the roof of a car- she told me she is their securityroo. (she doesn't get out much!)

I met a rusty fly on the front of a truck. He was a little upset after seeing all the dead bugs in smeared on the fronts of all cars. He was afraid that it would happen to him... but I reminded him that he is metal, and welded to the hood of the truck. He felt better after that ;)

Here There Puddy Cat....
I am Mighty Mouse!!!

Ekk! This rat is scary!!!
(I ran away and hid like this little kid.... It wasn't pretty!)

I tried to relax and have some fun! The rat really scared me. So I went to the arcade and played on the elephant!

A mini car for a mini mouse!

This is a hot car! Well it is actually a custom made limo. It just looks very hot.

After all this walking and talking, I needed a rest!

The entire weekend was filled with fun cars, meeting new friends and ALOT of oldies music!

Also, I learned something very important this weekend. (I can take this back to share with my lifestyle coaching friends). For the same calories as these two Oreos, I could eat the WHOLE thing of pickles. Yum Yum!
